iU Employee Spotlight: Trent Bellet

Without using the words in your job title, describe what you do at Ideas United?
I make vectors into simplified visual language and give them the illusion of movement. I also splice and arrange moving images together to make people feel things.
How did you wind up here?
I participated in Campus Movie Fest as a student for two years. A friend recommended I apply to work with CMF because I had experience teaching editing software. Then after 2 and a half years of one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had, I made the jump from tour to an in-office position!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the collaborative environment. Everyone is constantly encouraging one another, and I know I can go to any of my colleagues to help me continue to learn.
What’s your favorite iU related memory or story?
I love CMF TERMINUS because it’s an intersection of everything: iU, CMF, the students that were involved with CMF, and industry professionals. You see some really incredible interactions come out of it. Outside that, getting to go to Cannes Film Festival with the students and really see them grow as professionals over the course of two short weeks there.
What is the most fulfilling part of your role here?
When I was with CMF; every time a student tells me what a lasting impact CMF has had on them. It really shows that we are validating and fostering these students’ passion for storytelling, and I think that’s one of the foundations of what CMF/iU is all about.
With iU, it’s the fact that I am constantly learning and growing in my role. Never a day goes by where I feel complacent with where I am at, and I feel constantly supported to keep creating, which touches both my professional and personal work.
What are your hopes & dreams for the future of the industry we work in, specifically content creation and TV & film production?
I am really excited to see how the emergence of media like AR/VR/XR are going to impact how we share and communicate visual narratives.
What are you passionate about?
Sci-Fi/Fantasy literature, painting, and animation.
Who is your favorite social media account to follow, and why?
@speedlag because of the awesome rigging they do, @sagudelo0357 because of their bold color choices, and @raghavravifilm for his breadth in subject matter and wonderful eye for composition.
What’s one thing that no one in the iU family knows about you?
I really enjoy woodworking and whittling.
